Outdoor-Hive Newsletter #61 October 29, 2025

Tips and career/job opportunities in the shooting, hunting, archery, and sportfishing industries. These are the opportunities that will grow your career and grow our industry.

Antelope Hunt

When my father turned 55, he retired after 30 plus years of working with the US Forest Service and a full tour of Vietnam to boot. He used to tell me, “Kevin, I want 20 good years of hunt, fish, and trap, and maybe some golf thrown in for fun.” He passed away at the age of 61 — almost 20 years ago and it changed my life forever.

Two of my all time favorite hunts with my father where trips we did to Wyoming to chase antelope together. This year, while I have no intention of retirement, my memories with my father and my time in the field is even more precious to me. I took this antelope after 5 days and seeing over 200 antelope a day. It was a great hunt that allowed me to see elk, deer, and antelope and I am looking forward to returning to Wyoming here in the near future.

The points game is a dangerous system. However, at the current time, I am not sure how best to replace it. So, I just have to live with it as a non-resident hunter. I encourage some intelligent folks to come up with a fair and equitable system to make hunting more accessible.

I came back and had a few days of downtime before heading out to chase paddlefish with Ty Stromquist of Stromquist Outdoors. It was an adventure and while i did not get a paddlefish, I caught a carp and a small walleye. The carp went back into the water and the walleye wasn’t so lucky…

Can you believe it is only 83 more days until the start of SHOT SHOW?
