Outdoor-Hive Newsletter #66 December 3, 2025

Tips and career/job opportunities in the shooting, hunting, archery, and sportfishing industries. These are the opportunities that will grow your career and grow our industry.

I love this time of year… even though the snow came early to Nebraska, and I had to break out the snowblower twice since Thanksgiving. It’s December, which means there are so many many distractions on my plate this month. The holidays are here and coming fast and kids are coming to visit or home from college. Pheasants are everywhere in South Dakota and it is muzzleloader season here in Nebraska for deer. Sadly, all my tags are unfilled at this point. So like I said, a ton of distractions.

I spent Thanksgiving with family in North Carolina and got in 3 quick morning sessions throwing bait and lures into the ocean and intracoastal waterways. I pulled in a mixed bag of fish from croaker and blue fish to a really nice sea trout that I would have loved to have brought back to a frying pan but quickly released because we had a flight out that afternoon, before it dumped snow here in Lincoln, NE.

I had a great long conversation with someone this morning about branding and it brought up a quick point that I want to make to everyone who reads this. A good number of us here in the outdoor world sometimes dislike social media and participating in the world of social media. I am sometimes one of those people but as I race head first into 2026 with this newsletter as well as my work with HuntingLife.com and AGLOW, social media is a part of my life. Now, I am not advocating nor will be sharing up photos of my lunch at Chipotle from yesterday.

I am going to share posts to this newsletter, our great work, my articles, partnerships and success and I encourage all of you to do the same. In our world, your brand as an individual will live on social media. Participate in that process and curate the things that are important for people to know about you. The hiring managers are out there looking, and it could help you to land the career of your dreams or that next freelance assignment.

Quickly, based on where Christmas and New Years fall this year, we are not going to produce newsletters on December 24 and December 31. However, we will be back in full force on January 7, 2027. We will still be producing newsletters on December 10 and 17. If you are looking for a present for Dave and I, sharing this newsletter with someone else in the industry would be the greatest gift we could ask for.
