Outdoor-Hive Newsletter #70 January 14, 2026

Tips and career/job opportunities in the shooting, hunting, archery, and sportfishing industries. These are the opportunities that will grow your career and grow our industry.

What a week this has been! First and foremost, ATA was exactly what was needed. The show was just a little bigger than last year but not by many booths. On the two days of the industry show, I walked every aisle and talked to the vendors that I wanted to easily, and was able to connect with many great brands. I had a lot of great conversations about my work for AGLOW, Outdoor-Hive.com, and Hunting Life. I left before the public show. In talking with individuals who stayed through the entire event, the public show was a tremendous success for the folks who stayed and the aisles were slammed with people eager to get a good look at the great products and what is new in archery.

I had a conversation earlier this week and I said, “We need a strong Archery Trade Association and we need a strong ATA SHOW.” I stand behind that comment and I know we also have a new strong Archery Pavilion at SHOT SHOW which is also great. The point I am trying to make is that we can have both and we need both because it is good for our industry. I would encourage any manufacturing company to attend this show and find a way even if it is just a small presence. If everyone shows up, we all win, just my two cents.

I read a great article yesterday and saved it here to share with all of you. Where are all the Workers? was originally published in Archery Business published by Grand View Media and it is worth a read. There are great folks out there looking for work and there are some great perks that companies can utilize to train and retain them.

As an employer in my past life, two of the most important tenants I learned came from a wickedly good HR person we had in our company. The first one was always hire folks who are smarter than you are and surround yourself with those people allowing them to rise up around you. The second was train every person you could to ultimately replace you so that you would be free to move on to the next project. When I finally started to really implement that with my partners in the business, we all succeeded in tremendous ways. I miss those people in that business they were all amazing to grow and work with and I am happy in my new roles.

We are T-minus 6 days to #SHOTSHOW. Now is the time in which you should start packing and getting ready. Remember to wear comfortable shoes. There are miles and miles of active show floor aisles and thousands of booths to see.

Have a great week and THANK YOU for being a part of the Outdoor Hive.
