Tips and career/job opportunities in the shooting, hunting, archery, and sportfishing industries.

Spring
Spring is finally here in the Midwest of America. This is one of these great moments where living in a flyover state is just the best time of the year to sit back and relax and enjoy some of the most beautiful weather imaginable. I had an amazing week last week, spending time with Joe Arterburn and Nathan (Newt) Borowski at a DIY Media camp chasing Merriam’s Turkey. On the final evening, I wrecked a Jake’s life. It was a fun hunt after a very full day of chasing some super mature toms.
The turkey stew was just the kind of medicine I needed this week, as I caught a cold —most likely from the cold nights and the tremendous dust from the sandhills of Nebraska. If you haven’t been paying attention, Western Nebraska has been pretty drought prone the last decade, and this year is no exception. The turkey don’t care, but my lungs took a pretty good hit. I am still recovering.
The National Rifle Association Show starts tomorrow. While I will not be there, I encourage anyone who is close to Atlanta to show up in droves, join the organization, and support the heck out of the tremendous sponsors who are still holding on as the NRA continues to work on rebuilding the organization and driving it back to being one of the leading organizations working to defend your Second Amendment rights. I also hope you will support other great organizations and as the great Tom Gresham says, if you are a shooter, donate at least the amount you would spend on a box of ammunition each and every month to an organization protecting your right to shoot and own firearms in this country.
Personally, tomorrow I am headed to Springfield, Missouri to learn all about the great work being done by Boone and Crockett in preparation for its 32nd Triennial Big Game Awards in July. The opportunity to sit down with some of the members, leadership team, and fellow writers, editors, and publishers was an opportunity too good to pass up. It never hurts to learn about hunting ethics, the success of this great organization, and what I can do to continue to spread the message of the North American Conservation Model. Until next week, please be safe.
