Tips and career/job opportunities in the shooting, hunting, archery, and sportfishing industries. These are the opportunities that will grow your career and grow our industry.

Working Remote
I’ve often stated — as a work from home business owner — I have certain advantages that others just don’t have. I have worked from home for just over 16 years now. This freedom allows me to travel and help family when they need me. Last week, my great aunt needed someone to accompany her on a trip to see friends. She is at the age where traveling alone is problematic and having someone who can drive, easily operate google maps, handle baggage, and such is important to her enjoying her trip. Also, the trip was to Maine so… LOBSTAH!
My only request was that I needed wifi. The place we were staying had it, so I have been working remotely all week. Sitting around the dinner table, there are close to 15 people at the table and it is a wonderful set of family and friends. I actually played charades for the first time in probably 20 years, and I have eaten my share of lobster rolls, steamed lobster, clams, mussels, and oysters. I head home on Thursday.
I have only had two big issues this week. One issue is cell phone reception, it just isn’t great. Making calls on wifi works great and those calls are clear and good but off- wifi, the calls are spotty at best. As well, the wifi in the home we are staying isn’t super strong so Zoom and Teams video calls are a disaster. I am sharing all this only because it is something I had not thought of when we booked this trip. However, it has been easy to work around the situation.
I’ve been thinking, if I was going to seriously spend time working in different locations, I would invest in a Starlink Roam system and then run it month-to-month. I know these aren’t really job hunting tips but it is something to think about. We all want to work remotely when we need to, so we can be there for family or adventure and hunt/fish in great remote locations. Doing so just requires a little bit of planning.
Have an amazing week, be safe, and apply for those dream jobs you want!
