Tips and career/job opportunities in the shooting, hunting, archery, and sportfishing industries.

INSPIRATION
I am absolutely not an island. I gain inspiration from many folks, and I pay attention to my network, as well as what they are going through on any given day, week, month, or year.
This week, I saw a post on Linkedin by Jessica Ogden, it’s a great post. I have not had the opportunity to meet Jessica and my connection to her is through her husband Evan, who I really like and have had the opportunity to work with in the past. I am also a big fan of his music which you should all go listen to on Spotify.
Jessica wrote:
It hit me recently: I’ve been in the full-time workforce for 10 years. A full decade.
As I reflected on what I’ve learned, I decided to write it down in case it helps someone just starting out.
Here are 10 lessons I'd go back and tell post-grad Jess on day one:
1. Be proactive. Take things off your boss’s plate before they ask. Be the most low-maintenance person on the team. It’s the fast track to a promotion.
2. Solve problems. Don’t wait for someone else to fix it. Pull your boots on, figure it out, and become invaluable.
3. Protect your life outside of work. You are replaceable at your job - but not at home. Guard your health and time. Set boundaries. Others will follow your lead.
4. Care about the people and the mission. Even in your dream job, bad days will come. Working with people you like, and believing in the brand, makes all the difference.
5. Think like an owner. Steward resources like they’re your own. It’ll change how you show up and earn respect quickly.
6. Stay teachable. Be hungry to learn. Growth always follows curiosity.
7. Over Communicate. Use plain language, loop in the right people, and share details early. No one’s ever upset about being too informed.
8. Leave your ego at the door. It’s not about you. Ride for the brand and let the brand be the hero. Respect is far better than applause.
9. Be pleasant. A well-timed joke or kind word can defuse tension and build trust. People want to work with people they enjoy.
10. Small team, big impact. A focused, dialed-in team can do more than a massive budget ever will.
