Fall Weather

Fall weather here in Nebraska is just amazing. However, I don’t think the weather for Dave has changed much — it’s probably a lot hotter where he is (Las Vegas, NV). This week I am slammed in the office, but I am getting out for just a quick trip tomorrow evening to see if I can knock down a couple of dove. Opening Day here was a bust because it rained all day long and I just wasn’t willing to make the effort. Thursday, I am bring Miko out to do some running around and we will see if can shoot my new shotgun and take a couple of dove for the grill.

This week, I had the opportunity to read a great article in Shooting Sports Retailer put together by Trent Marsh. The article talks about Managing Employee Satisfaction and should be a must read for business owners and managers as well as folks looking to get into our industry. The reality is, no matter how much you love shooting, hunting, and fishing there really isn’t a job that will keep you in the field all of the time and in fact some jobs will keep you out of the field when the best fishing and best hunting is occurring. These are things to keep in mind when joining this industry.

All of that being said, this is still one of the greatest set of industries to work in. The reason is the people that we surround ourselves with and the projects we get to work on. Every industry has some great people and some people a good majority of us would rather not work around and our industry is like every other industry out there in that regard. However, our industry(shooting, hunting, archery and sport fishing) just does a better job of weeding out folks that are hard to work around because so many great people are interested in being a part of our industry. Just my two cents.

Firearms

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Ammo, Brass will use their engineering talent to design, develop, effectively implement, and constantly improve production processes to manufacture elite, world class ammunition for the consumer, law enforcement, and military markets. This role will focus on, but is not limited to, rifle and pistol cartridge case manufacturing.

The Sr. Design Engineer is responsible for developing new optics and/or accessories as well as managing legacy product improvements. Their responsibilities also include exercising sound engineering judgement, presenting analysis summaries which support design decisions, providing technical leadership on all team projects, and mentoring R&D staff. The optics platforms that you may work on include opto-mechanical and electro-opto-mechanical products such as, scopes, red-dot sights, reflex sights, laser sights, flashlights, and other similar products. The Sr Design Engineer will work in an integrated team with manufacturing engineers, electrical engineers, optical engineers, quality engineers, supply chain staff, product managers, and project managers. This senior position in the R&D department is generally intended for Mechanical Engineers with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and 7+ years of related experience.

Focus: The Chemical Engineering Co-op supports maintenance and production to develop and implement new or improved chemical manufacturing processes. This role can serve as the engineering representative on small capital projects including justification, obtaining approval, ordering, and installation processes and equipment.

Chemical Engineering Co-Op Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead a minimum of three hands-on projects throughout the term, to be defined at the beginning of the rotation based on department and business need

  • Assist Operations team optimizing daily operations and process performance to run a low cost, on specification, reliable, productive operation

  • Assist with resolving plant issues, driving improvements, and sharing knowledge to strengthen the performance of the team

  • Enrolled at an accredited college or university majoring in an undergraduate Chemical Engineering degree program. Preference given to students located within 50 miles of the assigned Olin location.

  • Ability to work full time (40 hours a week during normal business hours) either January – May 2026 or August – December 2026. Not eligible for virtual work.

The CNC set-up Operator will operate, change over and set-up CNC machines on low to medium complexity components using automated and manual equipment and processes to meet end customer needs. This Set-Up position that draws on prior machining experience and technical problem-solving skills to operate, change over and set-up a minimum of two (2) types of Primary CNC equipment.
